Everything you need to know about Stem Cell Therapy for Hair Loss

No one can deny that a bad hair day can impact our self-esteem. According to recent studies, both men and women feel more attractive when their hair is in top condition, while bad hair days increase their level of self-doubt and self-criticism. Moreover, these studies have concluded that when people are feeling anxious about their appearance, they tend to only think about others noticing their flaws, thereby increasing their social insecurity and feeling even less capable of performing daily tasks. For most people, this can be resolved by making an appointment to a salon and changing their hairstyle. But what about those who confront daily hair loss? Hair thinning and receding hairlines can be catastrophically ageing and deal a huge blow to self-esteem. Let’s discuss what options are available to improve their looks and boost their confidence with the help of effective,  minimally invasive hair regrowth treatments.

People affected by hair loss usually feel as if they’re losing a part of who they are. Hair loss and thinning can be extremely frustrating, as the cause can be difficult to determine but also because many products and therapies out there are not really effective.

A new solution for hair loss: stem cell therapy

You’ve probably heard about stem cells before, as they have an immense power to treat or even cure some diseases. In our case, one treatment that has proven to be very effective in treating hair loss is the groundbreaking Kerastem Cell Therapy. Kerastem therapy is a minimally invasive local anaesthetic day case treatment that uses your own stem cells from your own stores of excess fat to prevent further hair loss, improve the quality of your hair and in most cases restart dormant scalp hair growth. The treatment is designed to help people in the early stages of hair loss to retain and regain their head full of hair.

How does Kerastem work?

As the name suggests, this therapy focuses on the power of stem cells found in your adipose tissue, the whole process relying on the science behind fat transfer. Just like in any other fat transfer procedure, everything starts with a liposuction type procedure from an area with extra fat (thighs, hips, abdomen). For the scalp, just a small amount of fat is harvested 25-30cc of purified, filtered, washed fat is required. Additional fat (250cc) is concentrated and purified in a specialist Kerastem centrifuge to extract a stem cell-rich pellet. This part of the process takes about 90 mins and the final pellet is redissolved in 2.5-5cc of solution and then injected into the scalp as an outpatient. The tiny microaliquots are delivered through a special highly calibrated pen-like device to deliver the correct volume at the ideal depth.

Fat is the richest adult source of regenerative stem cells and luckily they are easily collectable through mini liposuction and then purified with the help of state of the art  Kerastem technology. This combination of natural, purified fat and stem cells represents a fertile environment that stimulates dormant hair follicles, helping patients achieve a thicker, fuller scalp of hair, and also improve the appearance of balding or thinning areas.

“It’s is such a joy to be able to help those with ‘thinning hair’ - such clients are usually depressed and hopeless, having had minimal understanding or empathy for their plight.

Post-treatment they are some of my most joyful, grateful and happy clients. “
