According to a survey conducted by the American Society of  Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), 11% of women indicated they were more interested in cosmetic plastic surgery or non-surgical procedures during 2021 than before the pandemic. 

Now that the world is reopening, people are scheduling popular plastic surgery procedures that will make them look and feel better. To help us get a jump on the new year, Dr Rozina Ali, one of the best plastic surgeons in London, is sharing her insight on what is sure to be 2022's biggest aesthetic treatments and plastic surgery procedure trends.

Facelift

In 2020, annual reports have shown that 234,374 patients received facelifts, making it the third most performed plastic surgery. In 2021, facelifts continued in popularity, making it safe to assume 2022 will be another great year for this cosmetic procedure. Since the pandemic began and people started working from home rather than the office, there has been a sharp increase in individuals seeking facial cosmetic procedures. That includes both skincare routines and plastic surgery.

A facelift or a rhytidectomy tightens up the skin of the face to reduce the appearance of wrinkles caused by ageing. Eyelid surgery has consistently been one of the most popular procedures in the nation. In 2020, 325,112 patients received eyelid surgery, making it the second most popular procedure. 

Blepharoplasty is most common for cosmetic purposes but can be considered a medical procedure as well in some cases. It refers to trimming of excess skin, removal or shrinkage of excess fat and in the case of lower eyelid bags and is a remarkably effective procedure in achieving instant rejuvenation of the upper half of the face. 

Some things in the future of plastic surgery are relatively easy to predict such as an increase in the popularity of aesthetic surgery and, which procedures will set the pace. Cosmetic surgery trends indicate that the demand for plastic surgery will continue to grow as it becomes more advanced, less invasive and more affordable.
