Fat, Nano fat, SVF and how they benefit you

Ageing is a complex process which includes volume loss and sagging of the skin and underlying structures. When you are aiming for the best anti-ageing solutions, many are directed at improving both volume loss and sagging. In the past 10 years, increasing use of a new fat grafting technique termed ‘nano fat grafting has been proposed which improves tissue repair by focusing on the benefits of the rich source of stem cells contained in the stromal vascular fraction (SVF) of nano fat.

Fat grafting is becoming an increasingly important tool in the armamentarium of plastic surgeons, with use in a variety of reconstructive and rejuvenating settings. It has been used for many years in regenerative surgery as a bioactive material through the lipofilling/fat graft – nano fat technique, as a bioactive scaffold when it was enriched with adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells contained in the stromal vascular fraction, and as a direct source of AD-MSCs (adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells) used in wound healing and scar treatment.

One of the best plastic surgeons in London, highly qualified in fat transfer surgery, Dr Rozina Ali shares with us her knowledge about body fat transfer procedures, the latest discoveries in the use of nano fat and SVF cells and how they can benefit you.

Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF)

Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF) is a component of the fat harvested by liposuction of excess adipose tissue. Adult human fat is the richest source of mesenchymal stem cells (the cells that make cartilage, bone, fat, and soft tissue) and contains a large population of stem cells called adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs). They share some similarities with bone marrow stem cells, including the capacity for multilineage differentiation.

As SVF cells contain a high concentration of stem cells but emulsify and destroy the fat cells, SVF therapy serves as a regenerator of sports injuries, and tissue quality (dermis, bone, cartilage, fat) without unintended volume enhancement. It is of great help when there is damage to the joints, muscles, bones, cartilage and even nerves. It also helps rejuvenate facial appearance by enhancing the regenerative capacity of tired, old cells.

Nano fat

Compared to SVF nano fat grafting, or micro fat grafting, provides a higher concentration of bioactive macromolecules at the target site, which acts as a bridge to enhance the site-secreted chemotactic agents..ie the signals sent by the old dying cells. The word ‘nano’ or ‘micro’ refers to the very small particles of fat that are specifically emulsified and used for areas with very defined contours, such as the fine lines, wrinkles, temples, tear troughs, and dark circles around the eyes.

Nano fat grafting is a fat transfer procedure that uses ultra-thin cannulas to move very small amounts of fat from one area of the body to more delicate areas, such as the face and hands, to give you a smoother, softer, and more rejuvenated appearance. Nano fat has gained significant importance in bio cellular regenerative medicine.

Benefits of fat transfer surgery

If you are dealing with poor skin quality and poor air/scalp quality. If your face is ageing:- facial sunken cheeks, wasting at the temples, scars, wrinkles and furrows, or simply some hollows in the face (such as under the eyes or under the cheekbones), nano fat injections may be your best if specialised surgical solution.

The procedure is amenable to a local anaesthetic procedure, a day case or outpatient basis. The nano fat transfer is specifically produced to correct very refined contours of the face, which is an excellent alternative to more traditional methods, such as dermal fillers. The nano fat transfer is also safe, economical and effective, where there is no chance of allergic reaction and it can be done in the office.

Furthermore, nano fat transfer results last much longer than traditional methods by stimulating regenerative facial structures, such as natural collagen production at a molecular level. This technique can be viewed as a replacement treatment for surgical eye, face and neck lift procedures.
