Bright lights, big city!
A leap of faith. Not as hard as you think… you don’t do it for ages then suddenly and without warning you do it. I probably could have left the NHS and my Norfolk practice years earlier, but I clung onto the known, the safe, the familiar. Then suddenly in early 2017 I did it. I let go of the complacency and comfort of the country and relocated lock stock and two smoking barrels to the big smoke! My own practice in London, the big bustling city, where I was new and fresh and unknown again.
Was it difficult? Extremely! What had seemed fun and exciting when I was in a full-time NHS position becomes high stakes and perilously serious when I was going solo…I could see no safety net.
But soon, like the circus performer I always wanted to be…I was soaring through the skies, letting go of one bar to pirouette and stretch to catch the next. A trapeze artist in the making! And it really is that exciting. I was flying, loving the variety, the opportunities, the totally different support network. The glamour, the dinners, the parties, fashion shows and shoots.
My reputation and experience lit my way, my Norfolk and Suffolk clients came with me and my team stayed close and looked after me.
I’ve always been a huge fan of reinvention and starting afresh – see my TEDx talk. I relished the opportunity to shed the old skin, the old ways, previous ambitions. Now it’s new. I’m on my own (give or take my family, my team and my patients!!), I’m forging my own path and introducing myself to the London clientele, international travellers and the aesthetic cognoscenti. So here I am, in London private practice, knocking politely on Harley street doors and setting up in new places. I am home.
New city, new ways, new website.
