Hair Loss and Hair Regrowth: A Regenerative Approach to Restoring Confidence

Dr Rozina Ali is a multi-award-winning consultant plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon with more than three decades of experience in regenerative medicine and aesthetic restoration. Known

for her patient-centred, evidence-led philosophy, she approaches hair restoration in the same way she approaches facial rejuvenation: by understanding the biology beneath the surface and working with the body, rather than against it, to restore confidence naturally and progressively.

Hair loss is far more common than many people realise. According to the British Association of Dermatologists, around 8 million women and 6.5 million men in the UK are affected by some form of
hair loss or thinning during their lifetime. For many people, it can be deeply distressing, affecting confidence, self-esteem and emotional wellbeing. Hair is closely tied to identity, femininity, masculinity and youthfulness, which is why even gradual thinning can feel profoundly personal.

In clinic, I often hear patients say they no longer feel like themselves. They describe seeing widening partings, reduced density around the temples, thinning ponytails or increased scalp visibility in
photographs and bright light. Men may notice a receding hairline or crown thinning, while women frequently experience diffuse thinning linked to hormonal changes or stress. Hair loss is rarely caused by one single factor. Genetics play a major role, particularly in male and
female pattern hair loss, but hormones, menopause, thyroid dysfunction, nutritional deficiencies, chronic stress, inflammation and certain medical conditions can all contribute. Lifestyle factors such
as poor scalp health, heat styling, tight hairstyles and harsh chemical treatments may also weaken the hair over time. Importantly, identifying the underlying cause is key. Hair loss is often multifactorial, and successful treatment requires a thoughtful, personalised approach rather than a one-size-fits-all solution.

Why Hair Health Starts With the Scalp

Healthy hair begins with a healthy scalp. Just as we now understand that good skin quality forms the foundation of facial rejuvenation, the same principle applies to hair restoration. Inflammation, dehydration, reduced blood flow and follicular stress can all impair the scalp’s ability to support healthy growth. Supporting the scalp environment therefore becomes an essential first step in both prevention and treatment.

This is one of the reasons I often incorporate DE|RIVE into hair restoration plans within my Central London R&A Clinic. DE|RIVE is a biomimetic, plant-based serum specifically formulated to support
scalp and follicle health. It works by reducing inflammation, improving hydration and increasing microcirculation to the scalp, while helping remove dead skin cells around the follicle.

Patients often notice that the scalp feels healthier and more balanced, while hair appears fuller, shinier and stronger over time. It can also be combined alongside many in-clinic regenerative procedures to optimise results.

Microneedling and Collagen Stimulation for the Scalp
Microneedling has become widely recognised for its role in skin rejuvenation, but it also plays a powerful role in hair restoration. By creating controlled microchannels within the scalp, microneedling stimulates the body’s natural healing response, improving blood flow and encouraging collagen production around the follicle environment. These tiny channels also enhance the absorption of therapeutic growth factors and regenerative serums.

At R&A Clinic in Central London, I often combine microneedling with advanced scalp supporting formulations such as AquaFirmeXS, which contains plant-cell factors designed to nourish follicles and
support healthier hair growth. Over time, this approach can improve scalp health, strengthen existing hairs and increase density and thickness in areas affected by thinning.

PRP and Regenerative Hair Therapy
One of the most established regenerative treatments for hair loss is Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP.PRP therapy involves taking a small amount of the patient’s own blood, isolating the platelet-rich plasma containing concentrated growth factors, and carefully injecting it into areas of thinning hair. These growth factors help stimulate dormant follicles, improve circulation and support tissue repair within
the scalp.

At R&A Clinic in Central London, I offer advanced regenerative PRP treatments using Cellenis® technology. The procedure is minimally invasive and typically takes around 20 minutes per session,
making it a practical option for many patients. When combined with microneedling, regenerative PRP therapies can significantly enhance scalp repair and follicular stimulation. This layered regenerative approach is particularly effective because it addresses not just the hair itself, but the overall health and function of the scalp tissue.

Stem Cells, Fat Transfer and Advanced Hair Regrowth Treatments

Regenerative medicine continues to transform how we approach hair restoration. One of the most exciting developments is the use of stem-cell-rich fat transfer technologies such as Kerastem Cell
Therapy, available within my Central London R&A Clinic. This treatment uses the body’s own regenerative potential to support hair regrowth naturally. Fat is one of the richest adult sources of regenerative stem cells. Using a minimally invasive mini- liposuction procedure, purified fat and concentrated regenerative cells can be harvested and processed before being reintroduced into areas of scalp thinning.

The goal is not simply cosmetic camouflage. These treatments work biologically, helping create a healthier environment for dormant follicles and stimulating natural regrowth over time. Patients often experience improvements in hair thickness, scalp quality and density, particularly in the earlier stages of hair loss. Because the treatment uses the patient’s own tissue, results integrate naturally with the body. As with all regenerative treatments, subtlety and patience are important.Hair restoration is rarely an overnight process. The most elegant and sustainable results develop progressively over time.

A More Supportive Approach to Hair Loss

One of the most important aspects of hair restoration is recognising that hair loss is not vanity. For
many people, it represents a genuine emotional burden that affects confidence and identity.

My philosophy has always been about restoration rather than transformation. The aim is not perfection, but helping patients feel more comfortable, confident and aligned with themselves again. That begins with listening carefully, understanding the underlying causes and building a treatment plan that feels realistic, evidence-based and tailored to the individual.

For some patients, scalp health and regenerative therapies may be enough. Others may benefit from a broader combination of hormonal assessment, nutritional support and regenerative treatments
working together. At R&A Clinic in Central London, we take a regenerative, whole-person approach to hair restoration, combining advanced non-surgical treatments with honest guidance and
personalised care.

Hair loss is often complex, but modern regenerative aesthetics now offers more options than ever before to support healthy, natural hair restoration in a way that feels thoughtful, progressive and entirely individualised.
