What is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of ageing of the neck.
Neck ageing can be due to poor quality skin, underlying platysma (muscle) bands, excess fat, or loose sagging neck tissue. All of which contribute to a poorly defined jawline (cervicomental angle) and can be an early giveaway of age even when facial aesthetics procedures have been extensively deployed. While most facelifts improve the lower face and neck contour, a neck lift can assist if only the neck needs to be addressed and especially if there is sagging skin, excess fat, and neck bands (platysma muscle banding).
Often combined with liposuction or a facelift, a neck lift can also be performed on its own, with or without additional skin-tightening technology like Renuvion, to enhance your results.
The final outcome depends on your skin’s elasticity and the extent of sun damage. A neck lift can restore a more youthful look but won’t alter your natural appearance or stop the ageing process.

Who would benefit from a Neck Lift?
Good candidates for a neck lift are healthy individuals without medical conditions, non-smokers, and those with a positive outlook and realistic expectations. You may benefit from a neck lift if you have a “turkey wattle” or a full fatty neck that makes you look older or less healthy than you actually are. In thin people the early signs maybe a tired looking lower face with deep lines around the mouth and lost jawline definition. Many people who are satisfied with their upper face may still notice excess neck wrinkles, a double chin, or jowls. When the neck area no longer matches the appearance of the upper face, a neck lift can be an effective solution.
How a Neck Lift is performed
The Consultation
The consultation process for a neck lift is a crucial step in ensuring a successful outcome. This is an opportunity for Dr Rozina Ali to evaluate the patient’s medical history, discuss their desired outcomes, and conduct an examination of the patient’s neck and surrounding features. Rozina will take photographs for documentation and planning purposes. We encourage all clients to speak to any concerns and expectations, to inform a bespoke treatment plan.

Your Treatment
Depending on the correction needed, strategic incisions will be made behind the ears and under the chin, to minimise visible scarring. Excess fat may be removed using micro-liposuction to reduce fullness under the chin and softness of the neck contours. The underlying neck muscles may be released or sutured together and repositioned to address muscle banding, overlying skin is carefully redraped with any excess trimmed away and sutured behind the ears to create a smoother, tighter neck. The neck is protected with a ‘neck lift’ bandage worn for up to 3 weeks to support the healing process.
Your Aftercare
After neck lift surgery, a bandage is worn to reduce swelling and bruising, and a thin tube to drain excess blood or fluid may be required, but if so, is removed within 24hrs. Dr Rozina Ali will provide detailed instructions for caring for the surgical site(s). It’s crucial to keep your head elevated and avoid twisting or bending your neck excessively. Swelling may take several weeks to subside fully, and incision lines which are well-hidden will continue to mature over subsequent months.
