What is Microneedling?
As we age, collagen levels naturally decline and especially so, in a more accelerated fashion after the menopause. By the time wrinkles and lines appear in your 30’s, collagen has already been declining for many years. During the perimenopausal stage of a woman’s life, both oestrogen and collagen decline dramatically with a 30% reduction in collagen content. As people seek out smoother, younger, and tighter skin as they grow older, skincare alone will not manage these expectations and treatments such as microneedling are foundational
Microneedling is safe, reliable and colour-blind, therefore suitable for all skin types. It has a very tolerable and short post-treatment recovery period, yet significant and cumulative clinical results. Microneedling is therefore a most valuable alternative to more invasive procedures such as laser skin resurfacing or deep chemical peeling.
Otherwise know as collagen induction therapy, microneedling involves using a device with fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries through the skin’s surface, into the dermis. This process stimulates the skin’s natural healing response, promoting collagen and elastin production, and leading to smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin.
The cartridges used are sterile, medical grade with very fine needles that are designed to punch a tiny columns through the skin surface to the underlying dermis and stimulate the cells, blood flow and a healing response. To the naked eye, the area looks superficially grazed but heals quickly within hours or days. The skin response to these micro-injuries is the stimulation of fibroblasts. The rapid action electric, micro-needling is designed to stimulate skin to regenerate and repair, resulting in tighter, smoother, healthier-looking skin.
Microneedling can also be combined with any number of therapeutic agents to amplify the benefits by deeply nourishing the skin and boosting depleted reservoirs. . Dr Rozina Ali can offer a wide range of appropriate agents to address your particular needs. these include but are not limited to:- growth factors, antioxidants, exosomes, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and autologous stem cells derived from your own fat.
Growth factors stimulate cellular renewal, while antioxidants protect against environmental damage and support overall skin health and have an anti-pigmentation, brightening effect. Exosomes, packed with potent regenerative signals, encourage collagen and elastin production for firmer, younger-looking skin. PRP, derived from your own blood, is rich in nutrients and healing properties that accelerate repair and improve skin texture, tone, and elasticity. Stem cells provide the ultimate in regenerative capacity and are regularly combined with facelift surgery.
Combining microneedling with potent therapeutic serums alongside fat transfer, natural filler +/- surgery offers cutting-edge combinations to promote healthy, natural facial rejuvenation with smoother, brighter, and more radiant looking skin with long-lasting results.

What areas can be treated with Microneedling?
Microneedling is a highly effective treatment that can rejuvenate and improve the appearance of skin on various parts of the body. While it’s best known for enhancing the face—treating concerns like fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and enlarged pores—it’s also great for other areas. It can refresh the neck and décolletage, restore a youthful look to the backs of hands and feet, and address stretch marks or scars on the stomach, thighs, and arms. By stimulating collagen production, microneedling works to create smoother, firmer, and more radiant skin wherever it is utilised.
The size of the needles used in microneedling plays a crucial role in tailoring the treatment to your unique skin concerns and goals. Shorter needles, typically ranging from 0.25mm to 0.5mm, are ideal for enhancing product absorption and addressing surface-level issues like fine lines, mild pigmentation, and overall skin texture. Medium-sized needles, around 0.75mm to 1.0mm, work deeper in the dermis, effectively targeting acne scars, wrinkles, and uneven tone. For more significant concerns such as stretch marks, deep scars, or advanced collagen stimulation, longer needles—up to 2.0mm—are used to achieve noticeable improvements. Dr Rozina Ali is expert in customising the needle depth in her microneedling treatments to deliver safe, targeted, and effective results for a wide range of skin types and conditions.
Microneedling is also showing worthwhile results in hair regrowth. With this treatment, tiny punctures are made in the scalp to stimulate natural healing and enhance the absorption of growth factor serums. When paired with topical nutrients, such as plant based DERIVE hair exosome, microneedling boosts scalp health and improves hair thickness over time. Dr Rozina Ali also offers take-home serums that can be applied to the scalp morning & night to provide continuous support for your hair.
Who would benefit from Microneedling?
Microneedling is a safe and effective treatment for many patients, however, it is not right for every person seeking anti-ageing results. Adults that are struggling with early signs of ageing and would like to see qualitative results from a minimally-invasive procedure are good candidates for microneedling. Current and recent Accutane users, people who have had skin radiation within the past year, those with active skin disease, are not recommended to have microneedling procedures during the active inflammation phase.

YOUR MICRONEEDLING JOURNEY

The Consultation
Dr Rozina Ali will lead you through the first step of the Microneedling process in her London clinic. In a personalised consultation, designed to understand your unique skin concerns and goals, she will assess your skin’s condition, discuss your medical history, and determine if microneedling is the right treatment for you. Rozina will explain how the procedure works, what results you can expect, and address any questions you might have. A tailored treatment plan will be developed, including the number of treatments, recommended needle depth and use of appropriate serums or therapeutic enhancements like growth factors or PRP. She will also advise regarding home use products.
Your Microneedling Treatment
Dr Rozina Ali will begin the session by cleansing the area and applying a topical numbing cream to ensure your comfort. Using a specialised hand-held electric device, tiny, precise needles create micro-injuries in the skin without drag. The needles enter the skin 80-150 times per second. The sensation is often described as a mild prickling, and the process typically takes 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the treatment area. This action creates thousands of micro-needle columns in the skin which then close very quickly and initiate the process of skin repair of the tiny, damaged areas.

Your Aftercare
After the sessions, there is some redness and grazing of the skin and the recovery period commonly lasts up to 72 hours (3 days) You may also have a feeling of tightness, dryness or sensitivity on your skin in the days immediately following the treatment. Because the efficacy of microneedling comes from the skin healing itself, this is absolutely normal. Dr rozina Ali will apply soothing hydrating HA face mask after treatment and you can purchase these for home use. She will also advise re anti-inflammatory exosomes (REPAIR) and fast healing agents, the copious and generous use of sun protection factor.
After every session, plan to keep your skin clean and if it’s possible to go straight home. Keep in mind that your face is filled with multiple minute wounds that might get irritated if touched.
A course of 4-6 treatments is recommended, with each treatment separated by 3-6 weeks, but this may vary, depending on your skin age, your skin condition and desired results.
Where will the treatments take place
With operating facilities in such prestigious locations as Harley street, South Kensington, King Edward VII hospital and the Weymouth Street hospital in Marylebone, you can be assured of expert and responsive surgical care. Outpatient visits are offered in both Marylebone and Kensington. The Rozina Ali practice is proud to offer best in class bespoke aesthetic treatments tailored to your individual needs.
