How will Liposuction benefit me?

Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits and with sufficient skin laxity, improving your body contours and proportion.

Liposuction techniques can be employed to reduce localised fat deposits in various areas of the body, including the thighs, hips, flanks, buttocks, abdomen, waist, upper arms, back fat and microliposuction for more delicate liposuction of the face, neck and chin. This procedure can be performed on its own or in combination with other plastic surgery procedures, such as a facelift, breast reduction, or tummy tuck, to remove excess or lax skin and achieve more immediate and comprehensive results.

Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise. It does not affect a global reduction in weight or fat. Simply specialised areas can be reduced. It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite – the dimpled skin that typically appears on the thighs, hips, and buttocks. Liposuction is best offered in those with young, tight, elastic skin rather than in areas of loose or saggy skin.

Who would benefit from Liposuction?

Ideal candidates for liposuction are adults within 30% of their ideal weight who have firm, elastic skin and good underlying muscle tone. It is important that candidates are healthy individuals without any life-threatening illnesses or medical conditions that could impair healing. Non-smokers are also essential as smoking can negatively affect recovery, scarring and outcome. As in all aspects of aesthetics, potential clients should have a positive outlook and clear, specific goals for body contouring in mind.

How the Liposuction procedure works

The Consultation

During your liposuction consultation with Dr Rozina Ali, she will discuss several important topics, including your surgical goals, any medical conditions you have, drug allergies, and previous medical treatments. You will also need to provide information about your current prescribed and any over-the-counter medications, vitamins or herbal supplements, as well as your use of alcohol, tobacco, or recreational drugs, along with any past surgeries and anaesthetics.

Dr Rozina Ali will evaluate your general health and consider any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors. She will discuss your liposuction options, recommend a course of treatment including surgery and post-surgical skin tightening, tailored to your needs and will take detailed photographs to inform the treatment plan. She will additionally explain the likely outcomes of liposuction and address any potential risks or complications.

Your Treatment

Dr Rozina Ali will perform the liposuction procedure by marking out and infiltrating the area for treatment with a tumescent amount of a special fluid mix. She will place small 3-5mm incisions where required, to insert either a short or long cannula (blunt hollow tube with suction holes) and ‘suction’ out the wet, loosened fat using power assisted vibration or other technologies (laser, ultrasound). The loosened excess fat, is suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum and the area smoothed.

Your improved body contour will become apparent only once the swelling and fluid slowly subside. The overlying skin will reconnect to the underlying muscle and fascia and recreate tightened contours. With the continued practice of healthy diet and exercise, the loss of excess deposits of fatty tissue can be permanently maintained. Substantial weight gain or hormonal fluctuations can alter the results; therefore maintenance schedules can be devised to reduce fat cell size and effect ongoing tightening of overlying skin.

Your Aftercare

Once your liposuction procedure is completed, Dr Ali will recommend a surgical compression garment or calibrated elastic bandages to wear over the treated areas. These will help to control swelling and gently compress the skin to your new body contours. It may take several months for the swelling to fully dissipate. As it does, your new contours and enhanced self-image should continue to develop.
