What is a Direct Brow Lift?

With time, the brow falls, especially laterally where it is unsupported, the brow generally descends before the face. When this occurs the excess skin and weight on the lateral aspects of the upper eyelid resulting in characteristic ‘crow’s feet’ appearance.

The aim of a brow lift is to return sagging eyebrows to their youthful position. The outer 1/3 of the eyebrows are not supported by the forehead muscles, and so tend to droop which makes you look sad, and causes wrinkling  in the outer corner of the eye. Sagging eyebrows are often accompanied by excess skin on the upper eyelids, which can be additionally treated by an upper eyelid correction (blepharoplasty), but in some cases a brow lift is indicated alone or in combination since the outer part of the eyebrows cannot be lifted or adequately corrected with botulinum toxin. The lift of the brow can be just the outer 1/3, the inner 1/3 or the whole brow.

Who would benefit from a Direct Brow Lift?

A brow lift is ideal for individuals looking to address signs of ageing or sagging in the brow and forehead area. Those who notice their brows drooping, creating a tired or angry appearance, or who have deep horizontal forehead lines or hooding of the upper eyelids may benefit from the procedure. An eyebrow lift can help to restore a more youthful and refreshed look by raising the brows and smoothing wrinkles. It’s also beneficial for people experiencing vision obstruction due to the weight of sagging skin on their eyelids. Whether for cosmetic reasons or functional improvement, anyone seeking to rejuvenate their facial appearance and achieve a more open, less creased look is an ideal candidate for an eyebrow lift.

How a Brow Lift is performed

The Consultation

The consultation process for an eyebrow lift starts with an in-depth meeting with Dr Rozina Ali. During this session, she will review your medical history, discuss your concerns, and explore your aesthetic goals. Dr Ali will carefully examine your forehead and eyebrow area as well as the eyelids. She will assess muscle tone, skin elasticity, and any asymmetry. She will explain the different techniques available, such as blepharoplasty, direct brow lift, endoscopic procedures, or non-surgical options, tailored to your specific needs. Additionally, Dr Ali will outline the potential risks, benefits, recovery process, and the results you can expect.

Your Treatment

Markings will be made by Dr Rozina Ali to determine the desired position of the lateral brows. This is typically done in front of a mirror. Your face will then be cleaned with a non-irritant disinfectant, and sterile drapes placed. A local anaesthetic is administered using a fine needle, causing a brief sting and slight burning sensation, which subsides quickly. The procedure lasts approximately 30-40 minutes during which you’ll feel Rozina’s hands and occasionally a slight tightening, but no pain or discomfort. The procedure involves removing the marked skin above the lateral eyebrow, undermining and moving the tissues beneath, and suturing the brow to a more balanced elevated position. Dissolving sutures are used deep whilst a non-dissolving suture is placed in the skin and removed within 5-10 days.

Your Aftercare

There is minimal swelling, bruising, or discomfort, which can be managed with head elevation, cold compress and OTC (over the counter) pain medication. Strenuous activities should be avoided during the initial recovery period and the head should be kept elevated above heart level. A follow-up appointment to monitor healing and remove any stitches will be scheduled.
